Tinplate refers to a steel plate with a thin layer of metallic tinplated on the surface. Tinplate is a low carbon steel rolled into a steel plate with a thickness of about 2mm, after pickling, cold rolling, electrolytic cleaning and annealing, leveling, trimming, and then cleaning, electroplating, reflow, passivation, and oiling, and then cut into finished products of tinplated sheet. The tin used for tinplated sheet is high-purity tin (Sn>99,8 per cent).
La capa de llauna també es pot recobrir mitjançant un revestiment per immersió en calent. La capa d'estany de la placa de llauna obtinguda amb aquest mètode és més gruixuda i la quantitat d'estany utilitzada és gran i no es requereix cap tractament de purificació després de l'estany.
